FTP Connection Setup
This guide will help you to setup your Kiwi Online web space and show you how to transfer your website to your web space.
- Step1: Activating your web space
- In order to use your web space you will need to request it to be activated. Please send an email to techsupport@kol.co.nz and provide them with your username so that they can activate it for you. You will receive an email in reply when this has been completed.
- Step2: Obtaining an FTP program
- To be able to transfer your files to your web space you will need to have an FTP program. These are available on the Internet to be downloaded quite easily. There is a good one available called Flash FXP, you can download this for a 30 day trial.
- Step 3
- Once it has been installed, open Flash FXP. You will be presented with the main screen.
- Step 4
- Once opened, click on the Session Menu and select the Quick Connect option. You will be presented with the following window asking for your Username, Password and Server Details. Type in your Username and Password in the format above, replacing 'myusername' with the username that you registered with. Once you have done this click on the Connect button to continue.
- Step 5
- You will now be logged into your web space. On the right hand window you will see the folder myusername.kol.co.nz, where 'myusername' is the username you registered with. This folder will be where you need to transfer all your files to. Simply double click on this folder to open it.
- Step 6
- In the left hand window select the files on your computer you want to transfer then right click on the file and in the menu that appears left click on Transfer. Your very main page will need to be called index.htm.
- Step 7
- Once you have uploaded all your web pages you can test to see what it looks like by opening up your web browser and typing in myusername.kol.co.nz, where 'myusername' is the username you registered with. Now simply press enter. If it transferred correctly you will now see the web site that you created.
Congratulations your KOL web space should be now set up and ready to go.
